Wasaga Beach

Bringing a town back to life

Client Town of Wasaga Beach

Wasaga Beach is one of Ontario’s most-loved and iconic tourist destinations, but has a severely limited seasonal economy. Consulting with the community informed our design for turning things around. Central to the master plan is rejuvenating the famous beachfront and, leading to it, the creation of a main street that provides a dynamic, year-round commercial core.

A newly-formed town square gives the downtown core life and provides space for community interaction and events. Traffic flow is improved and streets are designed to accommodate pedestrians and cyclists. The master plan also recognizes that the beach itself, famous for being the world’s longest freshwater beach, is under threat from erosion and needs to be preserved. The town and the beach are symbiotic and the master plan ensures that both thrive.
