Located in China’s lush, tropical Yunnan province, Xishuangbanna Theme Park and the accompanying water park is a celebration of colour, culture and natural wonder. When Wanda Group came to us with their vision for Xishuangbanna, we took inspiration from Yunnan province’s astonishing beauty and history. FORREC designed five distinct “lands” – Butterfly Land, Jungle Adventure, Fisherman’s Bay, Tea Horse Road, and the Arrival Plaza. Challenged with a canal that divided the site in half, FORREC created a bridge connecting the arrival plaza to the theme park, designed as an extension of the bamboo garden. The towering, bamboo-laden walls keep guests so immersed in the design they don’t even realize that they have crossed a canal.
Tea Horse Road is a special nod to the Tang Dynasty’s 14th century trade route for transporting tea across the province. Guests are invited on a thrilling and timeless journey through Yunnan province, finding exciting adventures – narrow mountain paths, wild horse rides and hordes of menacing bandits – as well as entertainment, shopping and dining.
FORREC also designed a very special element for the Arrival Plaza. Outside of the theme park and water park gates, guests can enjoy a lush landscape of pools and fountains nestled in a bamboo grove. Conceived for the entire community to enjoy for free, the non-gated amenity invites guests to splash, play and cool down anytime they desire.
