In 2001, Samsung Everland contacted FORREC to help develop a long-term revitalization and visioning study of their enormously successful Everland Theme Park in Korea. They wanted to expand and redevelop the older areas of the park and we set out to meet their challenge. We designed Aesop’s Village, a 14,000 square metre park-within-a-park that opened in 2005. Planning around steep site challenges, we turned the space into a storybook experience based on the well-known fables of Aesop. It turns out we were so aligned with the client’s goal to set a new standard of excellence that a long-term relationship began. Almost two decades later, FORREC and Samsung Everland continue to design and plan great entertainment spaces together, including the master plan for the site’s European Village, design for Asia’s largest wooden roller coaster T Express, Everland’s water park expansion and its next master plan expansion.
