Lawrence-Allen Public Realm Master Plan

Building a green framework for an urban community

Client City of Toronto

The redevelopment of this community connects neighbourhoods, improves walkability and safety, and creates additional open space. The master plan features a 10-metre wide, multi-use trail corridor called the Greenway which lines both sides of the Allen Road trench. It gives pedestrians and cyclists an alternate north-south route, provides recreational opportunities and contributes to the city’s goal of increasing forestation.

Bioswales and a tree planting strategy improve the Greenway’s role as part of the larger storm water management system. The master plan also rehabilitates Baycrest Park, an under-utilized, nine-hectare park currently hemmed in by highways and backlot fences. It will be made more accessible, functional and safe by adding more programming and enhancing existing park features.
